Conservative and restorative treatments
Dental caries
Dental caries is one of the most widespread diseases of the teeth, conservative and restorative treatments being the major maneuvers that the general dentist performs in daily practice.
Direct restorations
The appearance of technique of adhesive obstruction was a real revolution in dentistry. It is about composite materials which create a chemical bond with the hard tooth substance by using special adhesives. This feature allows using minimally invasive preparations consisting of strict removal of carious tooth substance, magnification methods (magnifying lens and/ or microscope) bringing extra precision to the maneuvers execution.
Because the technique of adhesive obstruction implies a dry working field, use of insulating rubber dam is mandatory. This allows a perfect adhesion between the tooth and the obstruction material, increasing long-term success rate of dental restoration.
Last but not least, the design of the obstruction must strictly obey the general functional and aesthetic principles, but it is customized for the clinical situation of each case.
Indirect restorations
Indirect restorations are prosthetic pieces that replace the tooth structure and restore teeth morphology after treatment of extended carious processes, which did not affect their vitality. These pieces are made in the lab or in the clinic, indirectly, after performing a classical or digital imprint of the clinical situation. They can be made of composite materials or ceramic, their fixing respecting the same principles of the adhesion described in direct restorations. This type of restorative treatment is very accurate, but its reliability is influenced by strict observance of the fixing adhesive protocol, and by the static and dynamic functional integration.
